Local knowledge in the assessment of resource sustainability : case studies in Himachal Pradesh, India and British Columbia, Canada

Auteurs :

Description :
The two cases are from the Upper Beas River watershed of the Indian Himalaya and the Arrow Lake area of the Canadian Cordillera. Paper addresses sustainability indicators enumerated by local people with relatively different cultural-historical experiences but living in environmentally similar contexts. Whereas the Upper Beas people had considerable knowledge of biophysical indicators of sustainability, the Arrow Lake people were more familiar with institutional arrangements for resource management. - (SLD)
