Over the last decade, several donor-funded watershed management projects have been implemented in Uttar Pradesh to raise standards of living and to reduce environmental degradation. Authors report on the experience of the Doon Valley Integrated Watershed Management Project, funded by the European Union and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The nine-year project was to focus on community participation in planning and to improve the quality of life of the people, especially women. - (SLD)
