All paths lead to the hot spring : conviviality, the code of honor, and capitalism in a Karakorum Village, Pakistan

Auteur :
AZHAR-HEWITT, F.

Description :
Author examines the role of a hot spring in a subsistence economy of a village lying in the Karakorum-Himalaya. She explores the ways in which village life focus on the pond - religious, economic, and social - and weighs and harshly criticizes the effects of the government's artificial partitioning of the pool's waters for men, women, and elite visitors, which she views as a capitalistic version of the women's code of honor isolation. - (SLD)
