Population and land use changes in the central highland Province of Dak Lak, Vietnam

Description :
The Province of Dak Lak in Vietnam has experienced a massive coffee plantation during the last ten years, but severe deforestation, accelerated soil erosion and reduction in soil fertility are widespread. In order to create a map basis for a land resource database, a classification of the land use changes in the period 1979-1989 and 1994 was conducted using air photos and satellite images. Finally the land use change was analysed using a geographical information system. The produced maps create a basis for the development of a land use planning system.
