Periglacial features and surface rock type : examples from the S-Bükk Mountains, N-Hungary

Geomorphology and changing environments in Central Europe

Description :
Field observations and laboratory analyses (grain size composition, water saturation and frost chamber experiments) show that a number of factors influenced the development of periglacial features in the S-Bükk. There is a close interrelationship between individual factors : geological structure, rocks, slope type and exposure, early Pleistocene topography, climatic conditions and percentage vegetation cover. Under identical conditions it was found that there is a striking regional asymmetry in the S-Bükk by composing rocks. The volcanic rocks add to the diversity of the landscape on slate and limestone terrains equally.
