The Blake paleomagnetic event in the Basaharc Double paleosol complex of loess profiles Paks, Mende and Basaharc, Hungary

Geomorphology and changing environments in Central Europe

Description :
The magnetostratigraphical study of Hungarian loess has been going on for several decades. In spite of a number of attempts, no reversals could be found within the Brunhes Epoch. This is unambiguously associated with the particular characteristics of loess formation and with the relatively short duration of paleomagnetic intervals within this epoch. One of these intervals is the Blake Event, which corresponds to the Riss/Würm boundary. Through thermoluminescence analyses, this event can be detected in the Carpathian basin and located in the BD paleosol complex of the Paks, Mende and Basaharc key profiles.
