Comparison of loess types in Hungary using granulometric analysis

Geomorphology and changing environments in Central Europe

Description :
The study of loess varieties in Hungary is supplemented with the granulometric analyses of key loess profiles. A new system of sedimentological indices has been introduced by a team in the Geographical Research Institute. The index of fitness grade was first applied in Germany for eolian deposits in Lower Rhine-Vestphalia, while the degree of weathering was employed for loess in China. These indices are combined with conventional sedimentological ones in environmental reconstructions. Index values are used to distinguish between old and young loess sequences.
