Description :
This paper, using natural non-cohesive materials such as gravel-sand and gravel-silt mixtures, makes comparison of 2 angles, angle of repose and angle of shearing resistance, through tilting tests and direct shear tests. Tests results support the results and conclusion reported by Onda and Matsukura : mechanism of avalanching at the critical angle of repose is not comparable to shear mechanism that has been considered to be responsible for the instability of slopes made of granular materials.
