Geographical issues on the Czech and Slovak territory have been traditionally researched at universities, and since 1950s at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences too. In 1962 four independent geographical departments fused and the unique Institute of Geography became the focus of academic geography. Most research capacities of the Institute were concentrated especially on the problems of regionalisation and regional aspects of environment. Fifty years of geographical academic research has brought a number of research reports, publications, maps and atlases, namely the Czechoslovak National Atlas (1966); - (MS)
