Description :
The study area displays well developed periglacial forms with solifluction tongues, patterned ground and numerous active, inactive and relict rockglaciers. In order to investigate frost frequency and to map permafrost distribution and characteristics (active layer thickness, ice-content, permafrost temperatures), geophysical soundings and continuous ground temperature measurements have been made at altitudes between 2660 and 3250 m a.s.l. in the discontinuous permafrost belt. Based on these findings, a model for permafrost distribution is developed.
