In this paper, morphological characteristics of longitudinal profiles of rivers are analyzed in relation to mathematical functions in the South Island of New Zealand, and their regional characteristics are examined in relation to geomorphological settings. Fiordland is excluded from the study area because distinctly large rivers are not developed.
