Description :
This paper focuses on the operational method for rice planting area estimation, in which TM data is used to extract base rice area in a given year of 1992. The NOAA AVHRR data is used to predict the changing tendency of the rice planting area. The method has been successfully used in extracting early rice area in Hubei Province in 1994 and acceptable result was obtained.
