This paper gives an overview of the geology of SW Egypt, which additionally can be used as explanatory notes to the enclosed Lithology Map 1:1 Mio. Attention has been drawn to the lithofacies of the stratigraphic succession. The outline of the stratigraphy and geological situation including also the present mineral resources, complete the picture of the geopotential of the region and ought to be seen in context with the studies concerning the groundwater (HEINL and THORWEIHE) as well as the soil associations and land suitability (ALAILY)
