Within the framework of a research into the tension between sustainability and flexibility, this study operationalizes the methodology of 'searching for possible directions of development' (i.e. the reconnaissance planning approach) at the regional level of the province of Noord Brabant, using GIS. It evaluates the planning support system RISOR and assesses the system's structure in terms of its capacity to store the knowledge used and generated during the case study. - (AGD)
