It is the objective of this contribution to survey traditional and new instruments of Canadian agricultural policy, to analyze their economic impacts and to investigate whether those instruments might serve as a model for future agricultural policies in other countries. In discussing some lessons from the Canadian example, it was stressed in how far individual policy instruments are trade neutral apart from their impacts on the primary objectives of income support or income stabilization in agriculture. - (TH)
