The central theme of this thesis is the recent development of settlements in a Dutch rural area and the function of settlements for the inhabitants in such areas. The main hypothesis of the study is that because of the processes of regionalisation and counterurbanisation the residential function fo settlements is nowadays the most important one and regionalisation and counterurbanisation are the background for developing diversity of settlements. - (AGD)
