Description :
The papers in this volume present an overview of the mineral species, possible mechanisms involved in their precipitation, and the range of depositional environments recorded for Fe and Mn minerals in surficial environments. The documented sites range from intracellular to million ton ore bodies. The research thrusts are on modern and on ancient environments because similar biogeochemical mechanisms may have been involved in the formation of the earliest laminated rocks, the banded iron formations and Proterzoic flat lying manganese deposits, as are cited for modern sediment accumulation and formation.
