Greater New Mexico's Hispano island
Auteur :NOSTRAND, R.L.
Description :
Spaniards arrived to settle the upper Rio Grande Valley north and south of Albuquerque in the seventeenth century. Attempts to expand were always stifled by the Apache, Navajo and Comanche Indians. After 1900 Anglos and Mexican-Americans overwhelmed Hispanos, a distinctive people with their own traditions. The Hispano proportion of the population has greatly waned, but it is still an identifiable ethnic area. - (DWG)
