Geomorphic development of axial ranges in eastern North Island, New Zealand, correlated with ignimbrite volcanism in the Taupo volcanic zone
Auteur :YOSHIKAWA, T.
Description :
The axial ranges of eastern North Island have grown in different processes of development north and south of the Hawke's Bay area in the Quaternary. The northern axial ranges had emerged by the early Pleistocene, when parts of the southern axial ranges were still submerged. Back-arc spreading extended from the Havre Trough to central North Island c.1.8 Ma. Eruption of ignimbrite began in central North Island c.1.1 Ma., and migrated to the Taupo Volcanic Zone c.0.6 Ma. Interrupted by a period of inactive volcanism, the eruption revived in large magnitude c.0.33 Ma.
