Ahnert's process-response models of denudation and the scale dependence of sediment yield models. An attempted reconciliation

Functional geomorphology. Landform analysis and models

Description :
The contradiction between the theory of Ahnert (1987) and empirical findings on drainage basin sediment yield in the Canadian Cordillera is more apparent than real. The apparent contradictions disappear when it is recognised that the denudational mass balance of Ahnert is similar in more respects to the sediment budget formulation used in the Canadian work. The essential difference in the two approaches is the way in which storage is handled in the two models: Ahnert focusses on regolith thickness; the Canadian work emphasises the complexity of the sediment storage term in glaciated mountain region.
