In the context of the necessity of a sustainable tourism development the papers presented at the Dutch Congress for Geographers, Section Tourism, 1992 are published in this special issue of the Dutch journal Vrijetijd en Samenleving (Leisure and Society). Articles in Dutch on the European dimension of tourism, on the situation in Bruges, on the modelling of tourism product development and the relation tourism-environment are followed by contributions in English on the management of tourism in cities of art and cultural tourism (Edinburgh). - (AGD)
