Texas identity and homeland in the eastern and central parts of the state are defined as a result of the violent nineteenth century encounters with two alien cultures : Comanche and Hispanic (Mexican). South and West Texas are increasingly Hispanicized regions which highlight their cultural separation from the Anglo core and its often chauvinistic attitudes. - (DWG)
