Natuursteen in Vlaanderen. Een historisch-geografische benadering
Auteur :NIJS, R.
Description :
Short review of the main building stones which have been used in the Flemish monumental constructions. Their origin, stratigraphy and quarries, their macro- and microscopic features, their behaviour with regard to various weathering processes, and the geographical dimension of their use are briefly commented. Their petrographic characteristics and the possibilities for transport by waterways have played a major part in determining their economic, cultural and historical meaning. - (LW)
