Description :
In two catchments in the high arctic area of NW-Spitsbergen, slush stream phenomena were studied in three proceeding years (1990-1992), regarding flow properties as well as geomorphic impacts. Their geomorphic impact is tremendous, it is similar to that of avalanches or debris flows. The process can be evaluated by means of equations adopted from other mass movement analysis. Although the geomorphic impact in a single year exceeds the fluvial activity by far, the low frequency is a limiting factor.
