Description :
Study of the traditional land use between 3 000 and 4 000 m in the Cordillera de Mérida around Gavidia. Peasant farming here is ecologically sustainable with recuperating fallows, little erosion and high diversity, but it is now obsolete. Even through chemical fertilizers increase productivity, their introduction threatens the equilibrium of mountain agriculture in the long run.―(DWG)
