Description :
The purpose of this study was to distinguish between recent and relict features in the red soils of South India. The most so-called alfisols in South India are paleosols formed under a much more humid climate. The results show that under present day semiarid conditions deep-weathering cannot balance surface erosion, and in several parts of South India shield inselbergs are coming to the surface indicating the destruction of peneplains.
