Description :
Five soils from California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and North Carolina illustrate some of the kinds of relict soils in the southern United States. Desert pavements, plinthite, duripans, petrocalcic horizons, and argillic horizons are examples of relict features or relict horizons in these soils. The soils are on geomorphic surfaces of middle Pleistocene to Pliocene ages.
