In contrast to temperate soils, where even small climatological or vegetational changes are often recorded in the soil material, most soils of the humid tropics contain few indications of past environmental changes. Almost no information exists on relict properties or features recognized in tropical soils, except for studies of stone lines and lateritic gravel.
