The paper describes a water and sediment budget model, averaging across the width of the slope, to explore the balance between processes, and in particular to explore the possibilities for cyclic behaviour, with alternating zones of deep rilling and colluviation. Numerical simulations provide forecasts which may be compared with data from soil erosion flumes.
