Research in the mountains of the island of New Guinea
Auteur :BROOKFIELD, H.
Description :
An Australian perspective on the history of research activities and findings on this vast island. Research dates from the 1950s, mainly in six disciplines, and has given much attention to historical change. Understanding of human adaptation is increasingly put into the framework of climatic variability and change. Some of this research has an applied dimension in improving land management system. Compared to Papua New Guinea where Australian scholars have been active, the mountains and people of Irian Jaya (the western half of the island) are much more poorly known. - (DWG)
