This study deals with the processes of verzuiling and ontzuiling in the Dutch education system. « Verzuiling » is the historical transformation of religiously-based subcultural groups into highly integrated complexes of organizations, whereby contacts between people belonging to different organizational complexes were almost excluded. The phenomenon « verzuiling » is reviewed in an international context. - (AGD)
