Origins of tourism in the Catskill Mountains

Auteur :
JOHNSON, K. A.

Description :
The Catskills, within 120 km of New York City, attracted vacationers beginning in the late eighteenth century based on the favorable landscape depictions of the area by painters and writers of the Romantic movement. In the early twentieth century, Jewish entrepreneurs started hotels targeted for Jewish visitors, but by the mid-1950s, the resort business had declined. - (DWG)
