Description :
The relationship between poorer farm clusters and distance from landlords is outlined. The interdependence between their size, number and location, and resource is shown. New settlemnts were continuously developed and these were less likely to adopt a largely inefficient farming system. The paper demonstrates that even within one parish these farm clusters form, at any one time, was far from uniform and classless.
