This discussion aims at placing the problems and prospects for effective coastal management in Ireland, and more widely in the British Isles as a whole, in the context of the likely physical environmental changes that might be expected around our coasts into the next century. In particular, the current approaches to coastal management and the lack of coherent national policies in this field are evaluated.
