A review of the research on the history of Lake Ladoga

This article gives a summary of the studies of the history of Lake Ladoga after the last glaciation, seen against the general development of Quaternary studies. The early studies were influenced by the Deluge theory, which later was replaced by the Ice Age theory. With the introduction of new methods, such as pollen analysis and radiocarbon dating, these reconstructions have later become more detailed and exact.
