This study is a contribution to the debate on the delineations of the permafrost zone in Europe during the Pleistocene era. Authors report on their investigations into former ice wedges now filled with sand at Mogyoród and Csipkerek (N-Hungary). Based on empirical investigations and comparative paleoclimatic data the authors assume a widespread and contiguous permafrost for the carpathian Basin during the upper Pleniglacial period. - (ZK)
