Description :
Mining activities in the North Hungarian Mountains, similar to the extraction of dye earth at Lovas in Transdanubia, started with the flint mining by the Early man in pre historic times, during the Pleistocene e.g. at the Avas Hill, Miskolc. The extraction of non-metallic minerals of the North Hungarian Mountains has recently come to the fore. The quarrying of building materials has been declining since 1990 and most of the companies were taken over by foreign investors, similar to other mines. - (ZK)
