A political ecology for Developing Countries ? Progress and paradox in the evolution of a research field

Auteur :

Description :
The argument of this paper proceeds as follows. First, I consider the disciplinary, transgressions' of scholars and scholarship as to specify the tendency towards both fragmentation and creative exchange facilitated by the field's evolution. Second, I suggest that the preoccupation of many scholars with politicising the natural has rightly privileged the political in the uneven emergence of a global socionature, but in doing so, has raised troubling questions about the proper place of ecology in political ecology. Finally, the radical pretensions of the field are considered in order to show how political ecologists have shown through their work the need for radical change even as they have yet to specify the contours of an alternative social and ecological praxis. I conclude by briefly considering what the paradoxe of this research field might mean in terms of future challenges for political ecology. - (L'A.).
