The situation of the European regions is analysed with regard to the large agglomeration centres, the focal points of population and the high-level transport infrastructures (such as the stops of the European high-speed train and the airports in Europe). Distinctions are made with regard to the accessibility of these destinations by means of road and rail transport and on the assumption of combined use of the means of transport (most rapid means of transport), taking air transport into account. - (L'A.).
