The greater complexity of interests and life situations causes a social-psychological climate ranging from melancholy to pioneer spirit and highlights the fact that the living contexts of some of the inner-city inhabitants must be protected. In order to include such social contexts in the process of urban renewal, methodical proposals for social studies in early planning phases are demonstrated using the example of the inner city of Cottbus. - (TH)
