In view of the wide variety of starting positions for urban development in each case (primarily between the urban regions in Western and Eastern Germany), it is clear that, for the foreseable future, it will no longer be possible to orient the individual specialist policies towards a uniform urban-development model. Unlike in the past, the objective can no longer be gradual adaptation of the individual policies, but must instead be rethinking in all the policy fields relevant to regional planning. - (TH)
