Towns grow into their environs way beyond their limits. This development is encouraged by a car oriented infrastructure in the urban fringe, which normally means that the goals can easily be attained, but which also results in distance intensive lifestyles and economic modes. A change in trend with the aim of traffic avoidance can only be initiated through innovative bottleneck planning within the context of an integrated urban development and traffic planning. - (L'A.).
