Description :
This study is an intensive investigation of weathering and soil-development properties involving the description and analysis of 20 soil profiles on the west and south piedmont slopes of Roan Mountain. In addition, a quantitative effort is made to compare the degree of weathering and soil development with the height of each fan surface above modern drainageways and to compare the fan map with the results of soils mapping in a recent county soil survey.
