Description :
This paper reports on how geomorphic evidence has contributed to an understanding and definition of flooding hazards associated with closed-basin lakes in the Great Basin of the western United States and specifically with the largest of these lakes, Utah's Great Salt Lake. The understanding of past lake fluctuations based on geomorphic and historic evidence and the knowledge of effects of wind and earthquakes on lakes provide sufficient information to be used in estimating flooding risks associated with development alternatives.
