Description :
This paper employs a modelling approach to elucidate the relative significance of the controls on hillslope failures. It raises important issues related to the use of physically based models in geomorphology, especially in relation to uncalibrated models used in assessing the impact of Holocene climatic change. Given the significance of spatial variability in many important model parameters, this paper investigates whether it is possible to establish sensible values for model inputs, then to investigate the major climate-vegetation-soil processes.
