The discussion demonstrates the evolution of squatter settlements as well as tackling the spatial, environmental, socio-economic and political dimensions of squatting. The degradation of the urban environment forces the authorities to find ways and means to alleviate existing conditions. A multi-faceted approach is adopted. There is a need of a comprehensive planning model for the region.
