The principle methods are described by the example of the Tokar delta, which is one of the most important desert locust breeding areas. The upsurge of a new plague in the Tokar delta region was reported by the FAO in January 1993. For detecting desert locust biotopes multitemporal Landsat Thematic Mapper data and ground truth information are analysed.
