Description :
Singapore faces a great challenge to maintain the pace of development. The effects of a chronic labour-supply situation and the appreciating Singapore dollar on the export competitiveness of the manufacturing sector are reviewed. Enterprise and state responses to these pressures are examined, with regard to the labour shortage. Regional cooperation in industrial development is studied, with a sectoral and technical divison across Singapore, Johor and the Riau Islands. The Singapore-Johor link is the most developed side of the growth triangle.
