An approximation of the sediment budget of the lower Mississippi River prior to major human modification

Description :
Components of the budget are derived from historical data including Mississippi River Commission hydrographic survey maps for the period from 1877 to 1924. The study provides a first approximation of the net change in the sediment regime of the river upon which future evaluations of these modifications can be made. The study area includes the entire Lower Mississippi River extending 1 700 km (river length in 1880) from Cairo, Illinois to the Gulf of Mexico.
