Townscapes, townshapes, townships : investigating experiences of urban South Africa through Black art
South African geography and post-apartheid reconstruction
Auteur :LAMMAS, R.
Description :
The humanistic movement is poorly represented in South African geography. Township art offers a wealth of images to extend excursions into the black urban environment into the visual realm and to deepen the local humanistic project in general. Its evolution from a medium for descriptive social-realism towards an expression of urban consciousness prefigures and commends a more socially relevant geographical investigation of indigenous qualitative material.
